On this Veterans Day, we'd like to lift up the important work of Service Women's Action Network. SWAN is the leading U.S. organization that focuses on gender-specific needs and issues faced by women in the U.S. military. They challenge institutions and cultural norms that deny equal opportunities, protections and benefits to service members and veterans. Rest in Peace Julie Pacheco. Our condolences to Julie's friends and family and we are sending comfort to the Franciscan Center and Paul’s Place where Julie visited. Love to everyone impacted by this tragedy. She was murdered after only recently getting housing.
Feeling a mixture of sadness and anger at the news of yet another murder in our city! Just found out that the body of Julie Pacheco, a frequent guest at The Franciscan Center and Paul’s Place, was found on 9/4. Julie was one of my clients, and I had been trying to reach her for over a week. She had recently gotten an apartment after a period of homelessness. I had to search through an article detailing the deaths of several other murders that took place that day, just to find Julie’s name and the circumstances of her death. Sadly, the 51 year old white woman was beaten to death. Her body was found at 9 am outside of St. Mark’s Church in the 1900 block of St. Paul St. I didn't see the story on tv, but Julie’s life...and death matters! The block above North Ave. is a busy one at all hours of the day and night. More than likely, someone saw the struggle or heard her cries for help. If anyone saw something, please say something! Rest in Peace Julie Pacheco! 💜💜💜🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

"Real criminal justice reform requires judges to act bravely and not to succumb to the mob mentality."
